The foot-pedal interface
The foot-pedal interface is the key to an efficient and sustainable riding position. As the soles of cleated cycling shoes have become stiffer and less compliant the need to properly position the foot in relation to the crank has become more important, to avoid injury and promote healthy cycling.
Our goal is to achieve the best foot position to create maximum biomechanical efficiency for your lower extremity joints and soft tissue, while minimising your risk of injury. This has to be done for each foot independently as we are often not symmetrical. We check the alignment of each of your cleats in five key areas
This is a core part of any initial client bike positioning but is available as a separate service for second sets of shoes or different bike where the cranks Q factor is different.
A session typically lasts an hour depending on your requirements, at a rate of £100/hr. Any cleat wedges, etc. are charged separately.
THE FEET ARE THE START OF YOUR BIOMECHANICAL CHAIN
Where the foot meets the pedal
All of the staff at Velo Atelier are certified by BIKEFIT. So why choose the BIKEFIT system for foot pedal alignment?
Firstly, the BIKEFIT system is the second oldest in the world and has pioneered many of the aspects of "bike fitting" now deemed standard practice.
Next, this was the first system to incorporate the front view, and the first system based on angles and alignment rather than just using formulae, the basis for all software or visual bike fitting systems.
Additionally, the system is used by Olympic Champions, World Champions, and Grand Tour winners, as well as average athletes.
Finally, it is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. To that end, many of BIKEFIT's products and methodologies are used by other branded Bike fit systems.
